Driver of buggy killed in vehicle versus horse-drawn buggy accident

Wilkes County Fire confirmed to WFMY News 2 and news sources that a Moravian Falls man was struck and killed in a vehicle versus horse-drawn buggy accident on Nov. 6.

The collision of car and horse buggy took place around 5:30 in the evening on Wednesday at Moravian Falls Road between Wilkes Central High School and Cub Creek Church Road.

Dispatchers of Wilkes County Fire stated that the driver of the buggy, Bryan Lynn Selby, 46, of Moravian Falls died of multiple injuries. Selby’s two daughters were riding in the buggy at the time of the accident. According to Trooper Holbrook, both females were taken to local Wilkes Regional by a private vehicle, were treated for injuries and released. Their condition was described as not serious.

Per the Highway Patrol, when the driver struck the buggy from behind, he was blinded by the headlights of an oncoming car and was not able to see the buggy because its lights were not on. Also, troopers said the horse-drawn buggy was painted black and that possibly made it more difficult to see.

No charges have been filed nor is the condition of the horse known at this time.

The crash continues to remain under investigation.
