On Monday, thousands of concerned dog lovers frantically networked for an adorable, Pit bull mix puppy named Butch who was housed at the Arlington Animal Services facility in Arlington, Texas.
Butch was scheduled for euthanasia on Monday afternoon, but against all odds, his life was spared until 2 p.m. today.
Thanks to one concerned reader, Butch's life has been extended indefinitely. Her name is Dawn Henson and she is no stranger to the world of rescue.
Henson has been featured here in the Dog News column in the past. Last summer, Henson fell for a gorgeous, white German shepherd named Kaiser.
Kaiser, like Butch, had been on the dreaded "E-list" at a Texas animal shelter. But Henson saved Kaiser, just like she is now saving Butch.
This morning, she emailed the following to me,
I saw your article on the pitbull puppy with mange and limited sight. It broke my heart. Our foster puppies are getting ready to leave for their forever home and I do not want this puppy put down.
And so it began...the desperate, long-distance work necessary to save a death-row dog.
Later this afternoon, Dawn emailed me again to let me know that a woman had pulled Butch from the facility and she is willing to foster him until this Saturday when a friend will make the trek to Dawn's hometown.
The pieces of the puzzle are in place for the successful rescue of this adorable puppy who deserves every possible chance for a happy, long life.
Now, there is one more thing to make everything fall perfectly into place - funds for his vetting.
Butch will be taken to a local veterinary clinic as soon as he arrives. That clinic is the:

Donations can also be made via a Chip-In established exclusively for Butch at this link. Or those who prefer PayPal can make a donation via this email address: [email protected]
You can find Dawn's Facebook page, Cookies for Kaiser, at this link where she will be posting updates on her new foster pup.
Please pitch in to help off-set Butch's veterinary expenses. He has mange and an unknown eye condition, in addition to the need for shots, an exam and neutering.
If you are unable to donate, please take a moment to share this article with someone else who may have the means to assist. Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to network for Butch.
Thank you Dawn Henson - another life saved!
