In an early morning car-versus-horse accident, a Honda Civic struck a loose horse that had wandered onto the roadway on Tuesday, Dec. 10, narrowly missing a couple of other loose horses. The accident occurred shortly before 6:00 a.m. near Welwyn Garden City on A414 by the Panshanger Junction.
The collision took the life of the horse.
The other two horses that were also loose on the road escaped any harm and were rounded up.
Police received the emergency calls about the accident at 5:50 a.m. and closed the road immediately in both directions. People were quick to tweet that “A414 Cole Green Bypass between B195 and Thieves Lane, Hertford, has closed in both directions due to a road traffic incident.”
The driver of the Honda Civic was picked up by ambulance and was driven to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation and treatment, but did not receive serious injuries during the accident.
By 7:55 a.m. police were able to reopen the road and traffic continued without unimpeded.
