People handling any product contaminated with Salmonella may potentially become infected, so it’s important to thoroughly wash your hands and all surfaces that have come into contact with the pet food or treats.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in people and animals. Small children, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems are at particular risk. The symptoms of Salmonella in humans include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever, and headache. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. People who are experiencing the symptoms of Salmonella infection after having handled any of the recalled products should seek medical attention.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed any of the recalled products and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled food or treats should discontinue feeding them and contact Natura for a product replacement or refund. Customers may contact Natura toll free at 800-224-6123, Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM CST or they may visit the company website
