If you have ever wondered about the impression a dog can make in a child’s life check out the story of Miranda Cosgrove and her beloved friend /dog Pearl – who passed away Sunday. Cosgrove, 19 tweeted a heartbreaking message “My dog, Pearl, passed away today. She was there on my first day of kindergarten and my first day of college. I’ll love her forever.” (Check out Cosgrove’s twitter account here.)
Pearl lived a great life according to reports. While her owner is the iCarly star, she has also seen some media attention. In 2008 she appeared in an interview with People and Cosgrove. She was 11 years old at that time. In the article Cogrove talked about how Pearl was always there to greet her when she came home after work. The simple fact that she spoke about and included her pet in her interview shows how important Pearl was to her. At the time of her death, Pearl (a toy poodle) was 14 years old.
Cosgrove tweeted her thanks on Monday to all the wonderfully sympathetic fans with this message: “thanks so much for all the nice Messages. I’m so sorry for all the other people who have lost their pets.”
This is a beautiful example of how a pet can make a positive and lasting impression in a child’s life. There are so many wonderful dogs and cats (among other animals) available for adoption at animal shelters across the United States. Check out your local shelter today and see how one of these wonderful animals can become a part of your family too.
