McIntosh, AL: As reported by Fox 10 News, an arrest has been made in the case of a Pit Bull named Bella who was chained up on the side of the road and appeared to be starving. The owner of the property where the dog was chained gave police the name of the person responsible. James Samuel Newbill was arrested, charged with animal cruelty and is being held on $3000 bond. Bella while still chained
In an interview with Fox 10 News, Newbill's stepfather has claimed that Bella was fed every day just as other dogs on the property and there must be something physically wrong with her.
Once the arrest was made, SouthBark (Southern Based Animal Rescue Kinship) rescued Bella from her heavy chain and took her to the Ark Animal and Rehab Clinic for veterinary care. Once she is medically stable it is believed she will be transferred to the Safe Haven Animal Care Kennels (SHACK), where she will stay until a new loving forever home can be found for her.
A petition has been drawn up by the compassionate advocates at Hand4Paws, asking that the maximum possible sentence be handed down against Newbill if he is convicted of this crime of animal cruelty. Advocates are seeking to ask for these maximum sentences in cases of animal abuse and cruelty in order to act as a deterrent to future crimes. You can access the petition here or at the link provided below.
Advocates had reported to police that Bella had been chained and in this condition for over 2 years. It's hard to imagine anyone could go out day after day to feed their animals and not notice that one of them was in serious need of medical attention. Hopefully if convicted, justice will be served for Bella.
It is hoped that Bella will recover from this; however, it is still early and all medical testing needed has not been conducted yet. If you would like to donate for Bella's medical care, you can do so at PayPal at the following e-mail address:
Keep fighting to get better sweet Bella. Advocates will do everything possible to get justice for you and to help you heal.
