I'll be home for Christmas
Austin desperately needs a home

“I’ll be home for Christmas.” A classic Christmas carol many of us can relate to. Those of us who do not live close to family, those serving in the military, and those working as emergency responders who sacrifice their time with family to protect and serve the public. Some have no family at all to go to or call. This particular song strikes a cord with people from all walks of life who yearn for a simpler time and the comforts of home and family.

Austin, an American Bulldog mix has never really had the chance to experience the luxury of home or family. He was brought in as a stray to Orange County Animal Services in Orlando, Florida at the ripe young age of 8 months. He was placed on death row just because he had kennel cough and was slated to be killed. Austin’s plight caught the attention of Luv-a-Bull Rescue in Pompano Beach, Florida who immediately sprung into action to rescue him. Austin was transported by a team of volunteers from Orlando, Florida to the shelter in south Florida. Everyone who met Austin fell in love with this little dog and his unique appearance. Austin is mainly all white and was born with one blue eye and one brown eye.

Although Austin escaped death at Orange County Animal Services his luck took a turn for the worst. Austin was recently diagnosed with an inoperable heart defect. The cardiologist’s diagnosis revealed a severe malformation of the mitral valve apparatus and severe left atrial enlargement. This defect is severe and will limit his overall survival.

Luv-a-Bull is asking for someone to please come forward and make his last years comfortable, happy ones. He is now a little over a year old and has never had a chance to experience the love and warmth of a human companion, a happy home, or a cozy bed.

Austin will do best in a home that is relatively calm and quiet. He does enjoy playing with other dogs but can only do so at ten minute intervals due to his heart condition. He is loving and affectionate to everyone but will show some aggression when he has food or a bone.

The staff at Luv-a-Bull wants so badly for Austin to find a home they are willing to cover any and all medical costs for him. He must be fostered in a highly monitored environment as he is at a high risk for spontaneous occurrence of congestive heart failure. He will need long term medical therapies and have his medication administered twice a day.

Yes, you will experience the heartache when Austin’s time comes, but it will all be worth it knowing you gave him something he has never had before; a chance to be a loved dog in a real home. He is only eight months old and deserves to have some quality of life for however long he has left.

Imagine sweet Austin, lying down each night to sleep. Laying his head on his paws and giving a sigh before dozing off thinking “I’ll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams.”
