Circus Protest Planned in Milwaukee

Circus Abuse

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin - Citizens United for Animals will be hosting a demonstration this Saturday at 2:00pm outside of the U.S. Cellular Arena, at the corner of N. 4th St. & W. Kilbourn Ave.

According to the organization's Facebook page, "The use of animals in circuses is an unnecessary and inhumane practice that is harmful to both the animals and the public. The tricks performed are unnatural, frightening, and painful."

The group's president, Tia Bransted said this is important to her "Because there is no reason to abuse animals for "entertainment"." Bransted says "Animals are suffering, being tortured, and people are making money off of this. It's unacceptable and I'm thankful for the group of people who are willing to speak out against it."

Madison-based Alliance for Animals and the Environment and Watertown-based Global Conservation Group also say their groups will be in attendance.

The Tripoli Shrine Circus did not immediately return our call for a comment.
