Chicago's Pet Scene - March 1 - 4
Spring is in the air and kitten season is around the corner. Learn more about the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) of feral cats and rehoming of strays at two events this weekend.

Spring is just around the corner and there are plenty of fun activities on tap this weekend to help the animals in Chicago or to hang out with fellow animal lovers.

Fun and fundraisers

Thursday, March 1 - Realtors to the Rescue will hold a Membership Drive and Party at Chicago Party Animals between 5 and 9 p.m. at Chicago Party Animals at 1133 West Fulton Market. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the Door. If you join the organization at the event, the entrance fee will be credited toward your $30 yearly membership. Rescue dogs from the Dog Saving Network’s Life’s Ruff show will perform tricks at the event.

Friday, March 2 – There will be a Beer and Wine Tasting Fundraiser at WineStyles at 105 South Northwest Highway in Park Ridge from 5 to 7 p.m. to benefit Heartland Animal Shelter. There is a $10 donation to participate and 10 percent of beer and wine sales will benefit the animals at the shelter.

Friday, March 2 – Stop by Chicago Party Animals at 1133 West Fulton Market for Pup’s and Puptini’s between 6 and 9 p.m. This ladies-only (and pups too) event with Martini’s, manicures and shoulder massages.

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) workshops

Saturday, March 3 - Caretakers meeting for Spay and Stay at Mundelein High School from 10 a.m. until noon. Attendance is free and you may register in advance at 847-548-1980. Learn more online.

Sunday, March 4 – Tree House Humane Society will host a Helping Community Cats workshop to educate the community on the difference between stray and feral cats, trapping cats, caring for a colony and more. The workshop will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Skokie PetCo at 9645 Skokie Blvd. Learn more about TNR online.

Pet food pantry distribution

Saturday, March 3 – The Lake County Pet Food Pantry will be distributing food between 9 a.m. until noon at the Central Bark Doggy Daycare at 256 Commerce in Grayslake. You must show proof of low income, pet ownership and have a valid I.D. Learn more online. Donations accepted between 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. daily.

Pet shop protests

Sunday, March 4 – The West Suburban Chapter of The Puppy Mill Project will be holding an informational protest from Noon to 2 p.m. (an hour earlier than usual) at Happiness is Pets at 1592 W. Ogden in Naperville Families and dogs are welcome to participate.

Sunday, March 4 – The Companion Animal Protection Socieity (CAPS) will be holding an informational protest from 1 to 3 p.m. at Happiness is Pets at 15647 S. 94th Avenue in Orland Park. Families and dogs are welcome to participate.
