Bird expo gets things rolling for Christmas donations for area families
Michael Carmany's Bird at winter expo

November 10 and 11 Greater Charlotte Caged Bird Society (GCCBS) held their fall expo. Many Triad bird lovers stated this is the best expo in North Carolina and it was such a success its expanding to three shows next year. The first one of the new year is already scheduled for February 2013.

Tony Jones the president of the society and fellow members worked hard to make this a great success. They had almost every kind of bird a bird lover could want. All the birds’ favorite toys and foods were available at reasonable prices.

The society also set up to collect donations for the Belmont Community Organization and The Belmont Police Dept. The department will provide Christmas joy for 12 families and they are hopeful they will collect $1,200 for the purchases.

Even though the expo is over, you can still contribute a tax-deductible donation by sending it directly to the Belmont Police Dept.

The address is:
Belmont Police Department
P.O. Box 551
201 Chronicle Street
Belmont, N.C. 28012

Attn: Corporal Huffstaller

GCCBS collected $300 from the wonderful vendors and expo attendees, which was split between the two charitable organizations. Please if you can help the police department reach their goal, there will be grateful families this holiday season.

Be sure to check out the next expo in February, it will a day well spent for the family meeting all the unusual birds that attend. You can keep up with what is going on with the society not only through the website but also their facebook page.

Have a wonderful holiday.
